Gone Wild is an educational card game I created in my second year of university, designed to raise awareness about animal extinction in a fun and accessible way. Aimed at players aged 8 and up, the game blends humour, creativity, and real-world facts as players work together to ‘save’ endangered animals by coming up with silly solutions to wild scenarios. Along the way, “Fact Cards” provide educational insights into the animals and the threats they face.
Visually, the game uses bold typography and colourful layouts to appeal to children and families. A key motif is a pair of eyes peering from the darkness of a cave — representing an animal in hiding, uncertain of its future. This element became central to the game’s identity, adding personality and mystery. The visual system was built to be both functional and playful, with clear card categories and jungle-inspired packaging.
Gone Wild brings together visual storytelling, purposeful design, and interactive play. The project helped me grow my skills in layout, branding, and creative writing, while also showing how design can make serious topics approachable and engaging. It has potential for future development, but as a university project, it met its goal: to educate through fun.
